There is a great tradition of lantern making from the Far East. Each lantern has developed with particular characteristics so to lend itself to certain functions or placements, as well as being an object of beauty in its own right.. These characteristics can be the lantern's effectiveness in giving off light, its ability to harmonize into or accentuate certain features in its surroundings, it reflective properties across water or its suitability regards space and general landscaping.
All our lanterns are made of excellent quality granite and are made to the highest standard of finish and we are sure you will be delighted with them. Most of our lanterns' light compartments are accessible with electricity by means of 2-3 cm hole bored through the lantern pieces below the light compartment.

Elegant lantern of simple lines, the Miyoshi lantern is stunning placed in any entry way or along a garden path, either singularly or in a group. The lantern has two windows, one at the front and one at the back. Small moon shaped windows grace the other two sides. Novel but traditional lantern. 'Kotoji' means 'harp tuner' and this lantern is so named as its legs are said to resemble the tuning forks of the Japanese musical instrument 'koto'. Its interesting shape allows for imaginative uses. Commonly one leg is placed on land and the other in water (in its footstool). Alternatively any two different surfaces such as earth, grass, gravel etc can be linked together. One leg is slightly longer than the other. 8 separately carved pieces (including 'footstool').
